MEDICAL RESEARCH FUTURE FUND (MRFF) 

GRANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Government announced a $5 billion, 10-year investment plan for the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) as part of its 2019–20 Budget.  This plan continues the support for life-saving research, provides researchers and industry with some certainty and direction, and re-affirms Australia’s reputation as a world leader in medical research.

Congratulations to three Neuroscience research trials initiated at The Royal Melbourne Hospital under the RMH Neuroscience Foundation, recipients of a significant MRFF Grant.

Stentrode | SWITCH Trial – Prof Peter Mitchell, Dr Tom Oxley
Endovascular Brain Computer Interface for Independent Communication

“The trial focuses on an implantable brain computer interface, its application – a hands-free controller for personal computers and devices, helping to restore lost function to patients with severe paralysis, due to spinal cord injury, stroke, motor neuron disease and muscular dystrophy.”
